Once in a while, I’ll be stuck in one of life’s infuriating routines,
and I’ll pray that someone- something- from the other side will summon me,
whisk me from the tedium
into adventures of life and death and demigods and demons.
Then later that day, in the deep deep night,
a voice will finally answer my prayers and say,
All right then, we’re ready when you are.
And that’s when I gulp,
and slink backward like a shamed lamb,
and reply, “On second thought, no thank you.”
